Late Summer (of 2020 and also of our lives?)

We now find ourselves in late summer. The full energy of Summer is starting to fade and we are heading towards the more reflective Autumn. #summer #seasonalliving #autumn

Its a time to start gathering our energy inwards and taking time for some self care. #selfcare

Physically we want to build up strength and I will focus on leg strength and core stability. We should also nourish ourselves with good food and plenty of rest. #corestrength #legstrength

I have found my allotment helps me to eat seasonally as I work my way through the fruits it produces. Today I'll be making soup with those courgettes and tomatoes. #seasonaleats #seasonalfood #courgettes

For practice this week I'm working on my overall strength and flexibility. Some key postures will be:

🧘🏼‍♂️ Plank and boat pose for the core

🧘🏼‍♂️ Warrior 1, Warrior 2, and triangle pose for legs


I will be taking care of myself mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well as physically. Listening carefully to my body and doing what it needs. #mindbodyconnection Some days I might be able to really push myself with a very physical practise, other days I may need a more restorative and calming routine. Berating yourself for not doing enough is not going to make you do more. Self criticism is one of my worst habits and it just doesn't help anyone.

I have lost my running mojo a bit over the last couple of weeks and my weekly mileage has dipped really low. I have had so many cancelled races that the normal motivation is not there. I am feeling like its time to get things moving again. I enjoyed my run this morning and am feeling good about getting back out there. As the trees start to turn, the weather cools and the landscape changes I can appreciate anew the beauty of all my local routes. #runninginautumn #cancelraces #runningmojo

Some of us are also reaching the late summer of our lives. Its a wonderful place to be. I am enjoying this phase very much so far. Those of you who have spent years giving the best of yourself to raising your children, building a career, excelling in a sport etc can now start to step back a little at this point. Gather your energy inwards, look at yourself and get to know yourself again. Spend time doing what you want to do and love yourself more. This is not a selfish act, others will benefit too. As we take time to care for and love ourselves we will all be to be better wives, mothers, fathers, husbands, children, employees, friends etc
